Japanese Local Delights - Sakura Cake (Strictly Seasonal and Only during sakura seasons)
We all heard of the renowned sakura blooming season during spring time in Japan. Some of us might be fortunate enough to go visit and catch a glimpse of the famous national pride of Japan
- the cherry blossom or better known as Sakura flower!
The best way to enjoy Japan is to get a travel book and walk through the streets of everyday Japan to take in the hustling and bustling of the great city!
But have you ever wondered how would the sakura flower actually tastes like? or would it even cross your mind that it is actually edible at all?
I think not. Neither did I!
After all, not all flowers are edible or even palatable! If they ever tasted good, there might not be flowers for us to enjoy or admire anymore! (all would be eaten and served on a silver platter!)
We Went to Japan during Sakura Season in April.
Full bloom during that time! The best ever Sakura viewing period in Kyoto, Japan!
Hanami (花見, literally "flower viewing") is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, and always enjoying Sakura flowers.
We found a special local seasonal cake at the Kuromon Market in Osaka, which is the sakura cake! This odd local delight costs 150 yen and you can even spot a tiny piece of the sakura flower on top of the cake!
Decorative flower and a tasty sakura cake!
I bet you have no idea what sakura tastes like. When you do bite into it, a world of sweetness and saltiness swirls together to create a taste that match the seasons! Truly is heavenly!
A tiny cake in a bustling city, packed with the flavours of springtime in Japan.
You have got to try it!
Regretted not buying at least half a dozen for tea times during boring office hours.
You definitely can't find this anywhere else in the world!
